Agriculture | Art Between 1919 and 1959, Cuba enjoyed forty years of bidirectional art and cultural exchanges with the USA. Many famous artists and entertainers visited Cuba for expositions of their works or to present shows in Cuba's famous hotels and casinos. Cuban artists vary from the famous ballerina, Alicia Alonso to Compay Segundo (the stage name for Francisco Repilado) of the Grammy winning "Buena Vista Social Club". Repilado was born on November 18, 1907 and celebrated his 95th birthday recently during a gala event in Havana. As a teenager, Repilado was a "cigar roller" but played with local bands when possible. In 1942, he formed "Los Compadres". He won a Grammy in 1997. The list of great artists, dancers, musician, and performers in Cuba is large.
